Tour Highlights

Strike it rich in the gold fields of Alaska on a captivating two-hour tour into the heart of Goldstream Valley. Your journey begins with check-in at the ticket booth, followed by a presentation on the Alyeska Pipeline. Then, board a replica of the Tanana Valley Railroad and step back in time as you learn about the early prospectors who struck it rich during the Fairbanks Gold Rush. The train will stop at Gold Dredge 8, where you'll discover how the dredge operates and enjoy a live gold panning demonstration. Once you arrive at our main camp, you’ll have the chance to pan for gold yourself! After striking it rich, head inside our mining museum to explore even more history, browse our gift shop, and take a close-up look at Gold Dredge 8.

Historic Gold Dredge 8

Gold Dredge 8 extracted over 7.5 million ounces of gold from the rich paydirt of the Goldstream Valley on its 4.5-mile trek from 1928 to 1959. Once retired, it joined the National Historic Registry as a historic district in 1984.

Tanana Valley Railroad

Enjoy a short, narrated train ride through Alaska’s mining history on a replica of the Tanana Valley Railroad. Along the way, you will experience historical forms of placer mining and an in-depth lesson on the daily operations of Gold Dredge 8.

Gold Panning

On your train ride, Alaskan miners will demonstrate the gold panning process. Once you arrive in camp, you will receive a poke filled with gold-rich pay dirt. Our friendly, knowledgeable guides will be on standby to assist you in recovering your gold. Nothing beats the thrill of taking home real Alaskan gold!

Living Mining Museum

The Mining Museum is an integrative experience in our Main Camp, packed with history and artifacts from the early 1900s. You'll be guaranteed to learn more about the gold mining process: clearing the land, thawing the frozen ground, and the final gold recovery. You will also learn from the hearty sourdoughs who first prospected the area. Finally, you will have a chance to see an arrangement of ice age fossils found on these grounds.
